Cocina del AmorJuly 12, 2024
My first solo gallery, Cocina del Amor, was an installation made to mimic a children’s kitchen set but in a large scale, built for adults. I feel a lot of adults tend to forget that humans are built for play and we shouldn’t let go of fun and things we enjoy just because we “grow too old for it”. A lot of my childhood memories are having fun in the kitchen with my family, cooking together, learning to dance, silly conversations, and dancing around. I feel like the kitchen is the heart of the home, which is why I chose to do a kitchen specifically, to bring the warmth of being a kid and the love found in then kitchen.
Cocina del Amor also blends my love of 2D and 3D illustration. The set pieces that make up the kitchen are all made of vinyl printed with oversized, drawn on kitchenware. The smaller props are all 3D modeled and then printed, sanded, and painted to match the color palette and aesthetic.
These are the inprogress and concept pieces I showed when I presented my concept for approval.
